Carlos Hawthorn

Artist Statement
Carlos Hawthorn is a Berkshire based documentary photographer whose work primarily revolves around how people and nature are connected. This could involve discovering traces and small details in an environment, along with experimentation using alternative processes and other photographic technologies such as game cameras.
Current work focuses around a personal experience of being a lifelong birdwatcher and shows how birdwatching can be an escape from urban commotion which allows people to depart and slow down from daily life. This project with the title; A Birder’s Notes features a group of prints in colour, two notebooks containing personal documented sightings of birds and other wildlife from as early as 2012 and a self recorded audio soundtrack of bird song. It has a tranquil atmosphere which reflects the idea of unwinding and shows a connection to the experience of birding rather than the bird itself but also raises awareness of the importance of nature in our lives.
